There has been no headway to catch a thief on the prowl despite recurring incidents in a high-rise with a two-tier security set up
The residents of Carlton Estate, a skyscraper with 484 apartments in DLF 5, Gurgaon, India have been going through a roller coaster ride.
This time, not on account of an alleged financial scam or cracks in the building but due to series of mysterious theft incidents happening inside the condominium since November last year.
Households have been raising a flag about such repeated incidents however Carlton Estate Condominium Association (CECA) Management seems to have turned a blind eye.
Such incidents are occurring despite night vision Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed in the premises.
Interestingly, the residents pay more than 21 million to CECA towards maintenance and parking charges annually. The exorbitant amount also includes a share that is spent to provide security services to the residents.
Last year, CECA had assigned security services contract to SLV Security Services Pvt. Ltd.
In early 2009, SLV Security Services Pvt. Ltd. was issued a warning by Surjeet Singh Deswal, former Commissioner of Police, Gurgaon for ‘Negligence in Delivering Duty’.
The development took place in consequence to 94 incidents of snatching, burglary and theft reported in Palam Vihar, North Gurgaon during one year, where SLV Security Services Pvt. Ltd. had deployed its security guards at specific locations.
In 2013, Gurgaon Police had arrested four impostors, who managed to get employment as security guards with intent to work as ‘Informers’ to design and commit robberies.
Pawan Tharwani, President and Arun Verma, Secretary, CECA did not respond to repeated requests for their comments.
Tharwani in the recent past scared away a team of photo journalists who were trying to report an incident of wall collapse bordering the skyscraper on a premise that a media report would bring a bad name to Carlton Estate.
Vishal Swara, Director, SLV Security Services Pvt. Ltd. did not respond to a set of pertinent questions put forth before him through e mail.
Questions pertained to measures initiated to stop such incidents, accountability, role and background check report of security guards and possibility of a burglary or any other grave incident.
A communication in public interest was also marked to Manoja Yadava – IPS, Director General of Police and Navdeep Singh Virk – IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Haryana by ‘The Revelation’.
It remains to be seen if the top brass of Haryana Police will initiate an inquiry as an aftermath of such repeated incidents.
